...Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of host is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Psalm 46:10-11
BE STILL!!! Has your mother or father ever said that to you? It's not an easy thing to do as the gleaming needle nears that inflamed and tender flesh, where the splinter has lodged. You hold your breath, screw your eyes shut and still there is that involuntary jerk. You cant leave it in there, it hurts too much – besides, you could risk infection; lose your finger, or even your life!
BE STILL!!! We all have in us the -Fight or Flight-. We will fight pain, or we will run from it; but sometimes our Father says... BE STILL. Let Go. Its not fighting and its not running away. Its the hardest thing to do. Must we give up control? Must we surrender and acknowledge we can't do this for ourselves? It's hard to hear when your heart is beating in your ears, and tears come unwanted and uncalled for to your eyes. But that's what we need...
Be still as ...death: " In the same way, you must think of yourselves as dead to the power of sin. But Christ Jesus has given life to you and you live for God... Give yourselves to God, as people who have been raised from death to life." Romans 6:11
It is the great mystery of God's grace, giving oneself over and dying to all the things that are so natural to us. The Bible calls it a stumbling stone, and so it is. Surrender is hard to do.
BE STILL!!! Psalm 46 opens with mountains melting into roaring seas.
Where to run, where to hide?
Nations are in an uproar, no help in sight and then he says...
Jesus said it, creation listened.
Moses said it: " Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace. " (Exodus 14:13-14)
BE STILL!!! Stand in awe of our great and powerful God, who commanded the morning, and caused the dawn to know it's place. He made all things and there is no limit to his height and depth. He is the center of all things.
Be still and let God work in you.
Be still and let God work for you.
Be still and know WHO HE IS; the God who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth.
Be still and regain that balance you need to walk straight.
